Roger Richmond Hill - A Man Lost

Richmond Hill (Ontario) is a town in south-western York Region, Ontario, Canada. Part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), it is the ninth most populous town in the province and the tenth most populous in the entire province. It is also one of the oldest municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It is a part of Peel Region.

Roger Richburg was born in Richmond Hill. He was the fifth son of Robert (Bill) and Elisabeth (Dale) Dickson. Roger's father, a butcher, left a sizable amount of money when he died.

Roger is survived by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren. A close friend described Roger as a "passionate, hardworking" man who took pride in his work ethic. According to a former colleague, he enjoyed the job as he worked "all hours of the day." "It never got dull," said the colleague.

Roger had been employed for over thirty years. He was an avid golf player, a regular golfer, a member of the Lorne Park Golf and Country Club, and a member of the Richmond Park Golf and Country Club (the Richmond Park Golf Club was later absorbed into the Greater Richmond Golf and Country Club). He had played with and against the best players in the area for several years, but his competitive spirit and love of the game led him to consider playing for Canada at the Olympics. He had made the Canadian national team as a golf professional, but he decided against doing so because of health issues. Roger had also participated in the Canadian junior national championships as a golf player. As a child, he always wanted to play football for the Toronto Argonauts, but his coach discouraged this because of his size and weight.

Roger was active in the local community. He was a proud member of the Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club, and of course, the Lions of Richmond Hill (Rogers Rowing Club). Roger also belonged to the United Church of Christ and served on its board of trustees. As a member of the Lions Club, Roger was active in the school community as well.

Roger was involved in many civic events including volunteering at local organizations. He helped establish the Roger Richburg School, which provides a high quality public elementary school education for children in the area. He served as a trustee on the board of trustees of the Lorne Park Golf and Country Club. Roger was active on the board of directors of a number of local organizations, including a local golf club. He enjoyed playing golf regularly with friends on weekends and in the summers.
