Vancouver, a cosmopolitan urban city in British Columbia is among Canada's largest, densest and most ethnically varied urban areas. A prime filming location for numerous movies, it is surrounded by mountains, which provides an amazing natural backdrop for outdoor scenes. Vancouver Art Gallery is renowned for its works by local artists, whilst the Vancouver Museum of History houses a wide range of artifacts and displays ancient indigenous cultures.

Vancouver is also renowned for its nightlife, with world-class theatres and discos that are situated on streets where the locals live. For a more lively nightlife, Vancouver's historic Gastown area is a great place to be, with nightclubs such as The Blue Moon and the Roxy. However, Vancouver's main drag of Commercial Drive can be an extremely busy thoroughfare, making it a less than ideal choice for a trendy night out.

Vancouver's nightlife, however, does not mean that the city is without its own nightlife. Many residents enjoy visiting the many bars and clubs of Kitsilano, which is located just outside of Vancouver's downtown core, and has become known as the "party district" of the city.

Outside the downtown district, many other districts of Vancouver have developed into vibrant nightspots. Kitsilano is home to the worlds famous Kitsilano Beach, while the suburbs of Burnaby and Surrey are well-known for their vibrant nightlife, often hosted by live bands, clubs and restaurants. However, Vancouver's West End district, or Gastown, remains one of the busiest and liveliest areas, with theatres such as the Capricorn Theatre and the Theatre District hosting shows all year round.

Vancouver is also famous for its live festivals and events, such as the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, which features an array of international talent. The Vancouver Film Festival, which runs throughout the year, showcases the best of Canadian films, and the Vancouver Film Awards, which award the best movies at the Vancouver Film Festival, has also become a popular feature of the festival each year.

The city of Vancouver also hosts festivals and events throughout the year, including the annual Vancouver Blues Festival, the Vancouver Jazz Festival and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, as well as the Canadian Music Week. Other events include the Vancouver Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and the Canada Day Parade, all of which bring a colourful range of performers and entertainers to the streets of Vancouver's West End district.

Vancouver is well known for its outdoor activities, and you will be able to enjoy an abundance of them in this part of the city. Vancouver has some of the best parks in Canada, and you can find everything from beaches, mountain biking trails and walking trails to water activities like kayaking, jet boating, canoeing and kayaking. And if you do not want to spend your whole day in the park, then there are plenty of water sports for those who wish to stay indoors.

While in Vancouver, don't forget to take advantage of the many activities that are available for entertainment while you are visiting. You can choose from numerous restaurants, night clubs and discos, or even a variety of night markets, which are venues where local artists and traders display their wares. You may also be able to visit some of the city's museums, if you do not want to visit any of the places mentioned above!
